Reflecting on a Legacy: Phyllis’ Farewell
“When my family and I first started publishing Horsemen’s Roundup, I remember having a moment of panic. How in the world would I find enough stories to fill it up every single month?” These heartfelt words from Phyllis Ormsby, the former owner and publisher of Horsemen’s Roundup, capture the humble beginnings of an incredible 20-year journey.
From its first issue in February 2005 to its final edition under her leadership in March 2025, Phyllis and her team delivered 242 issues — never missing a month. Through tornadoes, ice storms, and even personal challenges, she remained steadfast in her mission to tell the stories of Arkansas’s equine community.
“Our advertisers, correspondents, and readers were the heartbeat of this magazine. I had a deep belief that I was walking the path where I was led, and doing Horsemen’s Roundup was what I was supposed to do. I feel just as strongly now that it’s time for me to retire.”
While her departure marks the end of an era, Phyllis’ legacy continues with a new leader ready to take the reins and carry her vision forward.

A New Trail Begins: Mike’s Vision
For Dr. Mike Pallone, The Roundup holds a special place in his heart. “Almost 30 years ago, I was featured in Horsemen’s Roundup when I first started my veterinary practice in Rose Bud,” Mike recalled. “I was thrilled to be featured and quickly became a long-time advertiser.”
When Phyllis approached him about taking over the magazine, Mike was honored and excited to step into the role. “Over the last 20 years, Phyllis and her husband, George, have worked tirelessly to provide us with a monthly edition filled with news about our equine community. It’s now time to hand over the reins and proceed with a new trail boss.”
Under Mike’s leadership, the magazine will be rebranded as The Roundup, expanding its scope to include all aspects of animal care, homesteading, and wildlife management in Arkansas. With a fresh creative vision led by Sarah Henry, the new team is dedicated to producing a publication that is both informative and visually stunning.
“We aim to promote and preserve the lifestyle we, and our readers, choose to live. Every issue will not only keep you informed but also be something beautiful to enjoy.”
